Man and van across Surrey

The smaller end — a single room, a student move, a marketplace collection, or one heavy thing that will not go in a car. Two people and a van, booked by the job.

Not everything needs a Luton and four people. A room going across town, a first flat being furnished, a single heavy piece that needs two people and a tail lift — man and van covers it, with the same crews and the same blankets.

What it suits

  • Single rooms and first flats across GU, KT and RH
  • Student moves around Guildford at the start and end of term
  • Collections from auction rooms, dealers, showrooms and marketplace sellers
  • One awkward item: a sofa, a fridge-freezer, an upright piano, a workbench
  • Clearing a storage unit into a new address
  • Single loads going straight into store

Where it stops being right

Around a well-filled one-bed. Past that it becomes two trips and a long day, which costs more than a house removal and takes longer. Describe the load honestly and we will tell you which side of the line you are on.

Auction and dealer collections

Worth a mention because the county generates a lot of them. Saleroom pieces are frequently older, heavier and more fragile than they look, and they rarely come with packing. Tell us what it actually is — a marble-topped washstand and a pine chest are not the same collection — and whether the saleroom has a loading window.

The awkward addresses

Small loads often come out of the hardest buildings: town-house flats with a staircase that turns twice, conversions with a shared front door, and cottages where the van cannot get within fifty metres. We ask the same short list every time — floor, lift, stairwell turn, and where the van can legally stand.

Booking

Both addresses, a list or photo, and the floor at each end. Weekends and month-ends go first.

Worth asking

Small-move questions

One person or two?

Two, on anything with furniture in it. One and a van is fine for cartons and nothing else. A sofa down a Guildford town-house staircase is not a one-person job.

Do you carry, or just drive?

Carry — that is the job. If you genuinely only want a vehicle and a driver while you do the lifting, say so and we will price it that way.

Can you collect something I bought online?

Regularly, including from auction rooms and dealers across the county. Send both addresses and a photograph — if it will not clear your doorway we would rather know from the photo.

Do you do student moves?

Yes. The university at Guildford makes late June and September the busy weeks, and those slots go early.

Does cross-county distance matter on a small job?

More, proportionally, than on a house move. Inside a town it barely registers; a collection at Staines with a delivery at Haslemere is close to a day's work, and we say so rather than absorbing it.

Next step

Got a small move on?

Two addresses, the floor at each end, and a rough list or a photo. We will tell you what it needs.
