Removals from Surrey to Italy

Italy draws a particular kind of Surrey move: rarely a wholesale relocation, far more often somebody who has bought one specific house in one specific place and is moving with things they mind about a great deal.

The route

Out of GU, KT or RH onto the M25, then round to the M20 corridor across Kent — Folkestone for Le Shuttle, Dover for the ferry. From most of the county the motorway is minutes away. Then the long run south through France, where it forks: the Alpine tunnels via the Gotthard, Fréjus or Mont Blanc for the north, or Provence into Liguria and the A12 past Genoa for Tuscany and below. In winter that fork becomes a real decision rather than a formality.

Plan the arrival before the journey

Nearly every Italian town of any age has a limited traffic zone across its centre, camera-enforced, with permits issued by the local comune — so if your address sits inside one, the permit application is the first piece of work on the job rather than the last. Hill towns add gradients, gates and streets laid out for handcarts, where the answer is a transfer to something small for the final stretch. Photographs of the approach and the nearest place a lorry can stand are the two most useful things you can send.

Customs

Household effects entering Italy attract relief when residence is being transferred, but the case is made on documentation: your codice fiscale, evidence of residence being established, and a valued inventory in the format Italian customs expect. They are more particular about presentation than most, so we prepare it to that standard.

Dedicated vehicle or shared space

A dedicated vehicle means your dates and the fewest handlings. Shared space means a lower cost, a delivery window rather than a named day, and more handlings along the way. On a household with pieces you would mind losing, the handling count is a real argument for a dedicated vehicle, and we will make that argument rather than quietly selling the cheaper option.
